Opportunities Available to Invest in Our Future Workforce

Staff, CareerSource Pinellas

Beginning on June 11 through July 10, 2015 CareerSource Pinellas will once again host Pinellas County students in the STEM TEC program. For the past ten years STEM TEC has been serving youth by providing summer programs with opportunities to research STEM careers, participate in hands-on activities such as robotics, use of solar energy, Microsoft Office training, Manufacturing, and Information Technologies. Over the past four years we have served 2,128 students and they have earned 2,545 certifications in Microsoft Office. The average cost per student is $1,600 with $500 of that going directly to the student in the form of an incentive for active participation. The program doesn’t end there, the summer component is combined with year round career exploration activities designed to further the youth’s interest in STEM. In addition to the industry recognized certifications these youth learn teambuilding, leadership, and other soft skills that will provide them with a strong base for future success in the workplace. Due to funding limitations we are unable to provide this amazing learning opportunity to every student; so, we are asking organizations to join with us in educating our youth by sponsoring the STEM TEC program or underwriting STEM TEC Scholarships for deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Job Seeker Success Story

CareerSource Pinellas Staff

“When I came to CareerSource Pinellas, I was entering the job market with a proven track record in multi-channel business development, marketing and mass media sales; however, I was struggling to receive responses from recruiters when applying through various jobs boards. I felt that my experience was too much to be attractive for entry level positions, and it was not reaching the proper channels for mid to upper level positions. Joyce Rivas was outstanding in her approach. She and I initially spent a good length of time reviewing my background, challenges I was facing, and a full review of my resume. Joyce helped me consolidate my resume which made it more effective when applying to online job boards. Within a week of using the new resume format the responses from recruiters increased exponentially. Joyce was a great support through the ups and downs of various interviews. Although I found my current position through a former colleague that in itself would have never happened without the motivation I received from staff at CareerSource Pinellas. Thanks again for everything. The advice I was given from Joyce and the staff from Career Source Pinellas was instrumental to my current success.”
