Pre-Vocational Training at the Science Center


The Science Center provides short-term, customized pre-vocational training courses to meet the demand for specialized workers. In partnership with local employers, our training programs are integrated with work-based learning opportunities to give participants real-time knowledge of work environments and practices. Classes are taught by industry experts who are highly experienced in their profession.

The pre-vocational training programs may be able to assist you with subsidized training and work experience opportunities.

3D Digital Fabrication / CNC

Start your career path with only 4 WEEKS of training! Students will learn how to move a designs from a model to a manufactured part utilizing both additive (3D printing) and subtractive (CNC) methods. Students are introduced to design software and CAD/CAM software. The program includes a FANUC CNC certification with instructor led classroom lecture, self-paced on-line instruction, and hands-on activities using a FANUC CNC simulator. Students who successfully complete both the written and hands-on exams will receive a FANUC Certificate.

Certified Production Technician

Start your career path with only 3 WEEKS of training! The Certified Production Technician program prepares individuals for front-line production work in manufacturing and the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized certification. Training consists of classroom and hands-on lab learning at no-cost to you. Participants that successfully complete the program:

  • are directly referred by CareerSource Pinellas staff to local manufacturers for interviews and
  • earn the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician credential.

Construction Training

Start your career in the construction industry with only 4 WEEKS of training! Our free four-week program offers hands-on classroom training to earn nationally recognized NCCER Core Curriculum and OSHA 10 certifications. Successful participants are referred to local construction employers and apprenticeship programs for direct hire, apprenticeship program enrollment, paid work experience, or on-the-job training opportunities.Training modules will offer applied experience in trades such as:

  • Carpentry
  • Electrical
  • HVAC
  • Masonry
  • Plumbing & Pipefitting

Industrial Machine Maintenance Training

Start your career path with ONLY 3 WEEKS of training! No-cost training opportunities are available to earn an industry certification manufacturing employers seek. Upon successful completion of three weeks of hands-on classroom training, participants are referred to local manufacturers for interviews. This program will expose participants to the various aspects of working in an entry-level maintenance position.

Irrigation Technician

Get trained and ready for work in as little as 7 weeks! Our program offers classroom and field experiences that will equip students with the skills and knowledge to become more marketable to hiring employers. After successfully completing the program, participants will be considered for work experience opportunities.

Soldering & Cabling

Be on the job with 3 TO 5 WEEKS of training in a high-demand, high-wage career! TRAINING BEGINS EVERY MONTH! Participants complete three weeks of classroom activities and one week of employability skills training. Individuals who successfully complete the program will receive:

  • Job referrals to local manufacturers for interviews;
  • Earn IPC 620 Cabling/Assemblies Certification.
