CareerSource Pinellas offers innovative veterans services to help the honorable men and women who have served this country have meaningful careers. Generally, these veteran services include career exploration, skills training, referral services and more! Veterans representatives are dedicated to sharing knowledge and resources that will give veteran job seekers a competitive edge. 

To help veterans succeed in their job search, CareerSource Pinellas partners with local employers to expand employment opportunities for military men, women and their spouses.  Local veterans representatives meet directly with community partners, businesses, VA medical centers, community-based organizations and reserve guard units to create new employment opportunities for veterans in need. Veteran Services Include:

  • Counseling for careers and jobs;
  • Supplying labor market information about jobs and employers in this area;
  • Tailoring specific skills and abilities to the job market;
  • Presenting locally-listed jobs;
  • Guiding job-seekers to strategically use the online resources to expand job searches;
  • Producing recommendations for increased skills training and education;
  • Presenting information on veteran job programs and training;
  • Providing instruction or assistance with the use of Resource Room Facilities;
  • Preparing and critiquing resumes, cover letters and applications;
  • Developing jobs for veterans with barriers to employment;
  • Providing referral information on social service and family support; and
  • Linking veterans with Department of Veterans Affairs Medical and Benefits Information.

In addition, every member of CareerSource Pinellas’ Business Services team searches all new job orders to see if any veterans in their files qualify for open positions. If so, it is top-priority to contact these individuals immediately. CareerSource Pinellas aims to get the best-qualified veterans to employers as quickly as possible.

Individual Employment Plan - www.MyNextMove.org/vets

CareerSource Pinellas’ veterans career managers will work with you to develop an individualized plan of action by assessing skill level, education and training. Each plan is specifically crafted to ensure a successful search. The process outlines opportunities and objectives for you to follow. On “My Next Move for Veterans,” you will find a simple and quick search engine where you may enter your prior military experience (branch of service and military occupation code or title), and you will be able to explore information on civilian careers and related training, including information which can be used to write resumes that highlight related civilian skills. In addition, “My Next Move for Veterans” contains a link to an online assessment, the “O*NET Interest Profiler,” which provides results comparable to the Strong Interest Inventory being used in the new Transition Assistance Program (TAP). Veterans who have not received an interest assessment as part of TAP can access this interest assessment online from a link in the lower right-hand corner of “My Next Move for Veterans” or directly at: http://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip.

Transition Assistance Program (TAP)

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP), located at MacDill Air Force Base, provides the following services:

  • Assistance with  resume reparation that will translate military experience and expertise into applicable business skills;
  • Interviewing techniques;
  • Salary negotiation tips;
  • Targeted career fairs;
  • Labor market information; and
  • Supportive services for spouses.

 

Services to Military Spouses

We provide workforce-related services to the spouses of military service men and women. CareerSource Pinellas offers the necessary tools needed for a smooth transition into a new community, assistance with the job searching process and guidance to prepare veterans’ spouses for employment.

Veteran Employment Center

Veterans Employment Center–  This website is the single federal source for veterans looking for new career opportunities in the private and public sectors.  The Veteran Employment Center also aids service members whom are transitioning to the civilian workforce; spouses and dependents of military  personnel whom are looking for employment opportunities; GI Bill beneficiaries whom are transitioning from training to the job market; and employers whom are looking to connect with high-quality applicants.
